new york is tiring

by my best estimation, this is the distance I rode on the breezer itzy today. I also took some solace in the fact that I passed some roadies in central park on some hills.

I ran afterwards too, but didn’t have a lot of gas left. on another interesting note, the line in the whole foods serpents its way through the entire store.

Jen asked me once what I thought about during triathlons. It’s funny because I still like to think that I am not competitive, but pretty much all I think about is how fast I am going, where I can conserve energy and where I can use it. I guess that’s OK though, because we all know that I don’t think about the races during the rest of the time when I am training, because then I would train harder.

BUT, my races are short. During a long bike race, I guess you have to amuse yourself. Dave Zabriskie does and he’s pretty funny.
Dave Zabriskie has a podcast. I think it’s worth listening to if you are a cubicle drone.

Random bike blathering.

Had a very fun recreational ride on the capital crescent this weekend with jen, my buddy fish, and his ladyfriend rae. Jen demonstrated that she is again an Uber trooper when she lost a pedal and took a header got up immediately and apologized to OTHER people for cutting the ride short.

It wasn’t until I saw some guy riding a 1980’s hybrid in a king of the mountains jersey that I remembered that the tour started that day. All the people getting banned has made this year HELLA interesting. It’s nice to be working at a bike shop because it’s on all day (although I can only deal with so many Lance comments before I want to throw up a little bit). On my off days, you would think that I would be hardcore riding, but instead I wake up, realize that the tour is on, and sit around in my bathrobe eating junk food until noon. I got out riding this afternoon on the surly. I finished my ride with some laps in the park. I passed some guy on a fancy full carbon trek. I wasn’t riding hell bent or anything, just at that particular moment, he happened to be going kinda slow up the hill. The drama came when he waited about a lap and then went balls out crazy to pass me. At this point, I was near the end of my ride so I decided to cut it right there, I knew that if I kept riding, it would have turned into some bizarre cat and mouse wanna be race thing (I try to avoid that stuff, but I still fall guilty every so often).

Oh, and tour favorites. I didn’t have one, until today. On a whim, I picked up a copy of bicycling, which is usally a trash magazine but I figured I would take a look at their tour section. I don’t feel like I’m cool enough to read the Velonews stuff because I don’t really follow racing during the rest of the season. But there is an interview that clinched it for me. Dave Zabriskie interviewing Floyd Landis. If you are remotely familiar with either of them, pick up this magazine and read the article, because it is hilarious. Oh and Floyd Landis is now my favorite rider (me and everyone else trying to find “the new lance”). I was convinced that it was going to be a euro that took it this year, and I was cool with that, but Landis just seems like a cool guy and he rides hard.
